San Francisco: Cold Cuts & Sandwiches @ Molinari Delicatessen

Whilst in San Francisco, I made it a point that we had to try some of the places Anthony Bourdain had recommended. Luckily for us, we were staying at the edge of Chinatown and North Beach... and half of Bourdain's episode of The Layover was in Chinatown! One afternoon, we swung by Molinari Delicatessen to grab some sandwiches.

This shop is cool. A lot of cured meats and canned foods, but fresh cheeses as well. Everyone seemed to be regulars and knew to first pick up a number, then grab their own bread to get their sandwich assembled.

I got the Molinari special (~$10). It was so good and definitely some of the best Italian meats I've had. And it had everything you would want in a sandwich like this too -- mozzarella, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, mayo, mustard, and of course, a generous amount of meats.

Most importantly, the meats had a fresh taste to them (despite being cured...) and the sandwich was just really well put together.

Julian opted for the Joe special (~$10) which had mozzarella, dried tomatoes, bell peppers, and basil garlic. Good diversifying. This was really good too, since there was so much cheese, and the pesto-y flavours were good. However, I still liked my Molinari special more. Definitely one of the best cold cut sandwiches I've ever had!
