Valentine's & Tea @ The Urban Tea Merchant

Once again, I headed back to the The Urban Tea Merchant to try out their Valentine's Tea Service ($48 per person), offered between February 11th and February 28th.

As always, they outdo themselves with their decorations. I especially liked the décor this time, with all its cute pink teapots, teacups, and tins of tea. Really fancy and they would make great gifts for tea drinkers.

The Valentine's Tea Service is really cute and is definitely working the heart theme! Served in a three-tier set, the tea set is quite traditional in the sense that it works its way up from savouries on the bottom to sweets on the top.

The bottom tier included some items regular to Urban Tea's tea service offerings, such as the smoked salmon ribbon with ponzu jelly (my favourite!) and tuna tataki. Savouries that were new to the Valentine's tea service included the heart-shaped crab and artichoke tea sandwich, which had real (!) crab meat, as well as the waldorf wrap which was quite refreshing with a good amount of apples.

As always, the scones with the devon creme and tea infused jelly is always buttery and a delight. This time's selection included a plain scone and a chocolate chip one! I also really enjoyed the panna cotta which was really smooth and creamy. There was also a fair amount of Valentines-themed teas, including the amour de thé, a darjeeling blended with rose blossoms and specks of gold; the valentine breakfast tea, a black tea with silver pearl candy; and love me tea (my pick!), a green tea with lime blossoms and verbena.

To end off the tea service, the top tier had a generous amount of sweets, including petit foursfresh fruit, and their chevron strawberry. Not sure why, but I felt the macarons had improved a lot compared to last time's experience and had a better texture. Hiding behind the dragonfruit slices were moroccan mint tea nanaimo bars, which I enjoyed -- not overly sweet and had a rather refreshing minty taste to them.

The Valentine's tea service is worth checking out -- be it a nice treat for your sweetie or a fancy girl's only tea. There's quite a bit of food and would definitely make for a filling meal. The macarons, along with the new tea infused chocolates are available for sale in beautifully wrapped boxes for your sweetheart. They're actually really, really cute, and I love the vintage-y feel of the typography on the chocolates.
