Macaron Madness: Thierry Chocolaterie Patisserie Cafe

Thierry Chocolaterie Patisserie Cafe, which is operated by Top Table Group (CinCin, Blue Water Cafe, West, Araxi), is well-known for it's chocolates and macarons, as well as its pastries and desserts.  I love the doors, and it's a really good place to just relax and chat with friends over coffee (or tea for me) and wine.

I've actually been a bit lazy and delaying this post, though it really shouldn't be delayed since it's pretty good.  It wasn't until making macarons at home that my appreciation for a well-made macaron has increased tenfold. But I visited it a few times, so there will be more material in this post! After dinner at Aki with Amy, Diana, and Gloria, we went to Thierry Patisserie since it was pretty close by.

There are so many things to choose from.  I felt like a kid at a candy shop.

I had the honeybush vanilla tea ($3.25), which is a rooibos tea.  It came in a tea pot so I shared some with Amy.  I'm actually not a huge fan of herbals, but I didn't want to drink caffeine when tomorrow morning would be a work day -- but I actually enjoyed this one.

For desserts, I ordered the chocolate hazelnut and raspberry macarons ($1.75 each). I loved the raspberry one since it had a bit of raspberry inside. I don't know why, I used to hate raspberry-flavoured anythings, but it's my favourite thing now. I still haven't had fresh raspberries in a while though -- not sure if I would like that or not. The macarons felt like they were a bit heavy in food colouring (my camera made it even more intense, I admit). The cookies were good and didn't have any air bubbles and were quite smooth. The shell of the chocolate one was a bit bumpy (probably the almond flour was not fine enough), but they all had really good "foot" and were not cracked. (The foot is the bottom part of the shell.)

I visited Thierry again with Jeff and Kevin after the Black+Blue event, Ebisu tasting, and more B+B.  I actually just got two macarons to go: chocolate caramel and pistachio cranberry. They were alright. The chocolate one was sadly cracked, and I felt the plain raspberry one from last time was better.

On another visit, we got a cappuccino, tiramisu and cranberry macaron.  The tiramisu is really delicious, with a lot of the whipped layer compared to ladyfinger/spongecake layer.  The topping was very creamy, yet light.  The thin chocolate pieces surrounding it were very delicate yet strong.  She commented on how the cappuccino had good microfoam. The cranberry macaron was alright, I didn't really try it.

I like Thierry. It's really great for just chatting with friends since it's so comfortable.  And just looking at all the desserts makes me happy. I'll probably have to try something else other than the macarons, but I'm a bit obsessed with them right now.  They are pricey though, so I have to stop myself.  (I'm going to make my own during the break!)

This is on my wishlist too! $1.75 for a macaron is not bad considering Urban Tea Merchant charges $3.25 or something ridiculous like that.
