After a long day's worth of work (not really), we wanted either bubble tea or dessert. Since it's now winter and we didn't want to drive out of Richmond, we went to Berry Good, which is in the same mall as Top Gun on McKim Way.
Berry Good is really small and cute, about the size of Sweet Revenge, if not smaller. We went there at around 9pm on a Saturday and there were already a few tables there, but with room to spare. By 9:30pm or so, it was full and there was a wait.
| My attempt to show you the tables. |
Most people ordered from the combo menu which included a slice of cake and a drink, with prices varying depending on the drink.
Being the non-coffee drinking me, I ordered the loose leaf green tea ($6.95 for drink + slice of cake), which was pretty common and typical.
Doro's iced Americano ($6.95+0.50 for drink + cake), according to her was "smooth and not too acidic and very fragrant". The flavours went very well with white chocolate cheesecake. (Trust her, she has been a barista at two cafes, including Caffe Artigiano.)
For cakes, there is a menu to order off of, but it was better to just waltz to the fridge to choose since not all the cakes on the menu are available.
Dorothy’s white chocolate cheesecake was very vanilla-y. I didn't try that much, but I was a bit jealous of her plate because it was prettier than mine.
My earl grey cheesecake had a very, very subtle hint of earl grey, which I soon could no longer taste after a few bits. It had a pretty light cheese flavour too, since it was leaning towards more of a Japanese style cheesecake, rather than a really heavy cheese flavoured cake.
Rating: ★★★★
The cake slices are smaller than places such as True Confections, but it's cheaper here as well. The price of a combo would be about the same as a single slice there, and their teas and coffees aren't exactly cheap either. The cakes themselves are not as rich in flavour in comparison, but I believe they are going more for a Japanese feel instead. All-in-all this would be a good place for Richmondites to go to (I like it more than Yavis Club), rather than making the trek into Vancouver.
