Opening of Glowbal Group's Black + Blue

Last Friday, I was fortunate enough to have Kevin from 604Foodtography to bring me to the opening of Glowbal Group's newest addition, Black + Blue. I think the name is pretty clever -- you know me and my knack for names. It was great meeting a whole bunch of bloggers and Twitterers!

The interior of Black + Blue is really quite beautiful with gorgeous chandeliers in the centre, as well as at the front of the restaurant. Despite the name, it is based off of black and gold tones, so it feels really grand inside.

The most interesting thing is that they have a meat fridge which you could actually see into.  I haven't seen a fridge just dedicated to meat in my life! I learned that following Kevin is probably a good idea since the next thing I knew, I saw him, along with Queenie and Rick inside. Amy and I followed closely! Chef Jason Labahn was explaining the process of aging meats and how wealthy customers order entire pieces for their own parties. It was pretty amazing since I haven't been so close to so many beautiful pieces of meat

They even have a time-lapsed video of B+B's renovation! (And the background music is Justice!) Anyways, the rest of the night we mostly hung out at the booth closest to the kitchen -- "home base" as Rick called it. We also got quite a bit of food since we were there before the crowds came. Here are some of them:

This was also my second time or so having beef tartare! I still can't really get over the fact that it is so raw.

There was an assortment of desserts, and although the macarons had gold specks (which I have, like, everyday on my dessert anyways), my favourite was the sundae. I think everyone else liked the Baked Alaska, since it was so intricate and beaut, but it was too sweet for me!

My favourite thing (and I think everyone elses too) was the roast with mini yorkshire pudding.  There was a whole bunch of food, but it was pretty dark and my pictures are blurry. Check out Kevin , Rick and Amy posts (which you probably have done since I'm the slowest)!

Overall, I really enjoyed my night of free food and meeting people. I will probably write a "real post" when I come back for lunch since my friends want to see how beautiful it is, and it's quite a bit cheaper than dinner (which we can't afford)! You can check out their lunch menu and dinner menu on their site!

So... Finally decided to post this? :)

Memory is failing me on this one but there was another restaurant, possibly another Global one, which had a steak fridge as well. I find that steak fridge as an attraction to be a bit funny: If people saw how a steak looks like after 4 weeks of dry aging, they might not be necessarily enticed to eat it. (Of course, that "exterior" is cut out before cooking which contributes to the high cost of the steak when dry aged).

Anyway, will wait for a post of an actual visit to see how it is really...

@Kim: Yeahhhh finally decided on it. I still didn't want to make it a "review" on Urbanspoon, just because it isn't. Just wanted to share my experience that I had that night and also because I put the effort into lugging my camera and taking pictures. Haha!! :D

That's true about the steaks, but still just the sheer about of meat in the fridge is kind of beautiful.
